ASPE News January/February 2014

Dear ASPE Membership,

As many of you know, this year brings with it a new President for the ASPE community, Karen L.  Lewis,  PhD from George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Washington DC . Watch for the ASPE News April edition in which  Karen will give the membership an idea of some of the action items the Board of Directors is working on in the upcoming year.

A highlight of this edition is a note from our outgoing  ASPE President, Gayle Gliva McConvey, in which she outlines many of the accomplishments achieved by herself and by the Board Of Directors during her tenure.   Her note is a glimpse into the behind the scenes  work being done every day by board members, committee members and the ASPE Administration .

We also examine some of the connections being built with other simulation organizations and the steps forward ASPE has made in strengthening  these relationships. In line with the theme of the annual Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) international meeting (IMSH) “Making Connections”, several of the articles in this edition are related to how we, as SP educators, can work more closely with  mannequin simulation groups in our own or neighboring institutions.  Read more about the January 2014 IMSH meeting at:

As ASPE moves closer to our annual  conference ( June 22nd-25th Indianapolis,  IN ) , the Membership Committee is working hard to disseminate the information gathered in the survey sent to all members in the fall of 2013. Some comments and suggestions taken from the survey can be found in the ASPE Membership Survey Comments and Responses article found below.

Stay tuned to ASPE News for more on the membership survey results in upcoming months.

All the best,
Publications Committee,
Valerie Fulmer, Editor- in-Chief, Publications Chair
