Committee Updates

Website and Social Media Committee

 By Angela Blood

Website

The Website and Social Media Committee has been hard at work reviewing all existing website content. The good news is, the work is done! ASPE’s administrative support, KMG, has received the committee’s recommendations and is in the process of implementing our changes. In the meantime, we have a functional website. Check it out at: aspeducators.org

While there may be some hiccups on the website while KMG implements all our changes, the overall structure of the website is functional and ready for members to use! Some exciting new features to look for in the near future include:

  • Virtual learning center, including webinars, bibliographies, presentations, etc.
  • Searchable ASPE News and ASPE Quarterly archives
  • Searchable membership directory, including areas of interest
  • Streamlined payment and renewal for membership
  • And much, much more!

If you find something on the website that needs fixing, please email me at ablood@uchicago.edu.

Social Media

Check out our Facebook page with a new logo for Indianapolis – already planning for next year’s annual meeting. Discussions on Linked In are active and very interesting – please jump in and contribute!

Conference Committee

By Cathy Smith

I am pleased to report that we have an enthusiastic group of members on the conference committee (8).  The call for conference abstracts has opened and we encourage all members to submit. The conference will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana from Sunday June 22nd to Wednesday June 25th. For more information regarding submission guidelines please go to http://aspeducators.org/node/

Mentoring is available for those who need guidance in the abstract writing process. We are finalizing our two plenary speakers soon, so watch for an announcement from the ASPE administration for more information.

Highlights of the 2014 Conference:

  • three master classes presented by leaders in the field
  • workshops on consistently relevant topics lead by presenters who have been invited by the committee to present
  • all day pre- conference immersion sessions on Saturday June 21
  • morning pre- conference workshops on the Sunday June 22nd

We are working with the Website and Social Media Committee to integrate a strong social media presence into the proceedings.  Additionally, at the request of our members, we are developing a menu of optional social events during the conference evenings for ASPE attendees.

If any members have any suggestions for the conference they should feel free to contact me, Cathy Smith, at smith.cathy06@gmail.com

Webinar Subcommittee

By Alba Woolard

Since the 2013 ASPE Conference, we have had 3 very successful webinars delivered by ASPE members. Topics included scoring student notes, using SPs to manage events, and hiring appropriate GTA/MUTA.  More recently, on October 18th, a webinar entitled, “How to Train SPs to Provide Verbal Feedback on Para-verbal Qualities” was presented and we anticipate positive reports from our attendees.

Margaret Liu has recently joined as another Webinar facilitator, so we can expect to see her running some of the upcoming Webinars.
