The ASPE Board of Directors met in Orlando, Florida for three days in January, just prior to the IMSH conference, for the semi-annual face-to-face meeting.
The board had the opportunity to welcome President Elect, Karen Lewis, VP Finance Liz Leko, Chair of Pub & Web Valerie Fulmer and Member Liaison Dawn Schocken under the leadership of current president Gayle Gliva-McConvey.
For this meeting, our focus was on the strategic planning for the association. After each committee gave a status report, we worked through strategic planning sessions lead by Dave Wenhold from Kautter Management Group (KMG). Our KMG Administrator, Melanie Dixon, served as support, scribe, and fact checker during the long meeting days.
Rich discussions revolved around diverse topics; what the BOD perceives as the vision for ASPE both now and into the future, the internal and external perception of the strengths and weaknesses of our organization, in addition to how we want to “brand” ourselves in order to bring maximum value to our membership and association.
Significant areas of discussion also included the need to increase collaboration with other Medical Education and Simulation organizations, expansion of international presence for ASPE, increase educational offerings for our membership such as Webinars and resource materials, and the revitalization of communication within the committees and to the membership.
In addition, the board approved the 2013 budget. VP of Finance Liz Leko will report further on the state of our budget in the spring. Stay tuned to ASPE News for more information regarding ongoing Board of Directors initiatives and strategic planning.
Thank you to all board and committee members for your presence at the meeting and throughout the year.
